The Austrian Pilot
Objectives: To effectively tackle the needs and barriers to better participation of these groups in local, regional and European processes, the IDEAL project proposes the following objectives:
-
Multilingual safe spaces: Create safe spaces for deliberation where individuals are confident of expressing their views and sharing experiences on sensitive topics of mutual interest.
-
Technology-supported engagement: Familiarise the target group with digital tools and technologies that are becoming a feature of everyday life in the host country.
-
Multilingual tools and services: Facilitate access to participatory tools and services, and encourage deliberation with local citizens on matters of common interest.
-
Access to civic information: Make available information resources on the basic rights, obligations, and duties of being an Austrian and/or European citizen.
-
Empowerment through peer support: Build a supportive community to lessen the sense of isolation, and to bring the target group into contact with local networks.
Primary Target Group: The primary target group for the Austrian pilot consists of women with a refugee/migrant background of a variety of ages whose primary language is Dari/Farsi or Arabic.
Key Activities: The basis for this pilot will be an innovative neighbourhood program developed by Caritas Vienna called “Women Dialogue groups” which brings together female Austrian citizens and the linguistic communities of refugees or migrants in various districts of Vienna.
Expected Outcomes: The IDEAL pilot will significantly benefit the target group by encouraging them to interact with one another and develop the confidence to deliberate on key European issues that impact their lives.
