The Belgian Pilot

Objectives: To effectively tackle the needs and barriers to better participation of these groups in local, regional and European processes, the IDEAL project proposes the following objectives:

  1. Safe spaces for multilingual deliberation: Provide migrant refugees with safe spaces to voice their preferences and concerns, and to interact with other migrant and local populations.

  2. Information and educational networks: Facilitate access to information and civic education resources in native languages to develop a deeper understanding of democratic processes in the host country.

  3. Empowerment through inclusive democracy: Embed the target group more deeply in the democratic processes of the host country to have their preferences heard, and to influence the political agenda.

Primary Target Group: The primary target group for the Belgian pilot is refugees aged 35-55, with a native tongue in Arabic, residing in Belgium.

Key Activities: Key activities undertaken during this pilot include: needs assessment, interactive workshops, multilingual resource  development,  facilitated community dialogues, and collaboration with local authorities.

Expected Outcomes: Involvement in the project will raise the level of participation of Arabic-speaking refugees in local democracy procedures. Access to multilingual information resources and interactions with peers and experts will further lead to an enhanced understanding of local governance
structures and heightened sense of civic responsibility within the target group. And last, community resilience against disinformation will be strengthened through multilingual media literacy training.
