As Europe is going through a housing crisis, the need for innovative, inclusive, and sustainable solutions has never been more urgent. This critical challenge took center stage in Brussels on June 11, 2026, during the 14th edition of the EU Design Day, a key satellite event of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Festival.
Organized by the European Regions Research and Innovation Network (ERRIN), the event was entitled NEB as a game changer: Rethinking affordable living, housing policies and urban regeneration through the lens of NEB. The gathering brought together regional stakeholders, policymakers, and innovators to explore how design and community action can transform the built environment.
At the close of this impactful day, the IDEAL project proudly contributed to the dialogue, showcasing how digital civic tools can empower citizens to tackle housing challenges.
Speaking at the end of the final session, Fabienne Trotte from Relais Culture Europe, a core partner in the IDEAL project, took the floor to present the IDEAL solution to an audience of European innovators.
Her presentation underscored a fundamental reality: solving the housing crisis requires more than just new buildings; it requires new ways of collaborating. Trotte highlighted the critical importance of fostering open, multilingual, and cross-border discussions around housing policies.
Through the IDEAL platform, citizens, local authorities, and urban planners are given a shared space to:
Identify overlapping bureaucratic difficulties that delay affordable housing projects.
Debate and co-create resident-centric urban regeneration strategies.
Ensure that the voices of the most vulnerable are heard in the ecological transition of our cities.
The IDEAL solution is perfectly positioned to serve as a bridge between high-level urban policies and grassroots community needs.
